Our Peer Support and Health and Wellness Units offer a variety of programs and resources to help our members maintain healthy lifestyles.
The Peer Support Unit at BEMS was established in 1989 and I have the privilege of being the second Coordinator. Because we are a confidential unit, the hard work each of our team members does daily can easily be overlooked. I want to personally thank the professionals that work in this unit, none of this would be possible without you. First responders cannot control what they're exposed to, but we can control how we respond to it. At the end of the day, under the uniform each of us is a human being. It's okay to be affected, we just need to commit to treating the effects of trauma exposure the same way we would a physical injury. in coordination with the Health and Wellness unit, if we commit to this- every first responder can retire as healthy or healthier than when they arrived.

The fitness aspect of Health and Wellness is geared towards your overall sense of wellbeing. In this zero-judgement space, members are encouraged to take advantage of an array of fitness programs available free of cost. Yoga, Biking, Wellness in the woods, CrossFit, 5K, 10k, and swimming are just some of the programs available. The goal is to give our members a chance to decompress and reset from the stressors of the environment we work in.
Remember at the end of the day “It’s just you vs You!”

Health and Wellness Director
